invest right and learn by doing ft. computer networking
i recently bought this course on computer networking by hussein nasser for around 450₹. but here’s a little context first:
i wanted to understand how computers communicate in a really deep manner. initially, i was going to read a book. well, it was a 1000 page book and i don’t think i have that much time this year. i’m more focused on building and doing things. obviously, someday i’m gonna read it to satisfy my curiosity. i don’t wanna repeat the same mistake i made last year. i was just consuming and not doing much. i had my aha moments but i was too lazy.
don’t get me wrong, i love reading books and if i had the time, i’d read them. but the goal is different for the next few months. i wanna get a job or build something valuable so i can start making some money.
so, i bought this course. and i wouldn’t recommend you jump straight into it if you don’t have some experience with backend stuff or something related to computer science. or maybe you can but you’ll have to do your own research along the way. that’s what i’m doing. it’s not a really big course. it’s very to the point. that’s what i liked about it. if i wanna know something, i can research more. though i have to put in some extra effort to connect it to my map of knowledge like how it relates to other domains.
in 1 to 2 days, i already know enough to work as a backend engineer. but i’m also gonna try my hand at hacking.
the thing is i wasn’t really sure if i should invest that money. probably, this amount is nothing for you. but it matters to me. then i realized that i’m already paying fees in lakhs at university with zero expectations. but here, i have some hope. so if you can, you should at least try. the worst it’ll be bad. but someday it’ll be really good and you’ll thank yourself for saving so much time. that’s what you paid for.
i mean i can find everything he spoke about but the filter he applied using the experience he had, that matters. i remember i wasted money on the last two courses i bought. they weren’t worth it. but this one was. and it was even worth the amount i paid for all three courses combined.
also doing is the fastest way to learn. stuck? research. you learn. so i’m gonna try this approach more. but again, having the right fundamentals really speeds up your journey.
gotta go now. i won’t promise but you might see a blog on computer networks not really deep but enough for you.
